In the film "A Thousand Words" Eddie Murphy plays Jack McCall, a smug, greedy literary agent, unscrupulously signing writers to book deals. He is mean and selfish regarding everyone, including his wife. McCall begins to pursue a self-help guru named Dr. Sinja and runs afoul of him, via his self-centered ways.

As a result, a tree at Dr. Sinja's compound pops up in McCall's backyard. The tree begins to shed a leaf for every word McCall speaks. Dr. Sinja warns him that when it stops shedding leaves, both the tree and McCall shall die.

"A Thousand Words" gets pretty irritating very fast. It goes through so many loops to explain the premise of the film and what is irking McCall, who becomes borderline crazy, that it will annoy you rather quickly.
