"Gravity" starring Academy Award winning stars, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, is the heavily nominated film about astronauts losing physical contact with their spacecraft and ending up wandering in space under tough conditions. The struggle is to reach a safe refuge via any spacecraft, which can safely return to earth. It proves difficult due to circumstances that arise throughout the film.

Bullock turned in a good performance in this movie. It was a chaotic film that was a bit staid at times. I also expected greater efx for a movie in this genre. Space films are usually heavy on special efx.

However, this film is not without controversy. A credible lawsuit has been filed by published author Tess Gerritsen, stating "Gravity" ripped off her preexisting, copyrighted book of the same name, which is also about a female astronaut who is lost in space. Sounds like a clear cut case of copyright infringement.

However, federal judges never rule against Hollywood film studios in a practice worthy of criminal investigation and a congressional hearing. Things have gotten so bad many litigants have chosen not to sue domestically, opting to sue in foreign courts. For the sake of the integrity of the court system, Congress needs to address this before a terrible, forthcoming scandal erupts.
