"Mama, I Want to Sing!" starring singer, Ciara, is a take on the famous play of the same name. The play and film are based on the life of the late 1960s singer, Doris Troy, a preacher's daughter, who got her start in the church choir. Troy signed a record deal with a major label and faced many of the temptations artists in the mainstream do. "Mama, I Want to Sing!" the movie has been changed from the play in some ways. Some of the messages remained true to the faith, while others were a bit off the mark.
