Penelope is a delightful movie about a young woman born into a family under a curse. As apart of the curse, she was born with a pig nose and ears.

The ears they could cover (you know, like Obama being born with Despereaux’s ears – just teasing) but the nose they could not, as a carotid artery runs right through it.

Rather than embracing Penelope’s uniqueness, her family hid her away in the nicely refurbished attic of their mansion.

Her mother, who married into a rich family, believed the only way to break the curse was for Penelope to marry another blue blood, due to a riddle regarding said curse, potentially being broken by marrying one of her own kind. However, upon seeing her, men fled, ran like Usain Bolt. Until one day she met one that did not run away (aww).

Penelope is not ugly. Regardless of having the nose of a pig, her inner beauty, that consisted of traits such as being kind, unassuming and free from guile, made her a likeable human being one would want as a friend.
