"Roman J. Israel Esq." stars Denzel Washington as a savant attorney, of the same name as the film's title, who is socially awkward. He does a significant amount of pro bono work. He questions the methods of the justice system, as so many criminals go free. He works on a monumental legal brief with the aim of reforming the court system. When the small firm he works for gets into financial difficulties, Israel compromises his values in doing something he should not for money. It sends him down a terrible path.

"Roman J. Israel Esq." is a great film. Washington delivered one of his best performances in this movie. It was worthy of an Academy Award, not just the nomination he received. "Roman J. Israel Esq." struggled at the box office. Sony did not market or promote this film correctly and it flopped as a result of their failures in this regard.
