Finally got around to seeing the movie "The Hunger Games" and was not impressed. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence as "Katniss Everdeen." For a film geared towards teens, it certainly is very brutal and violent. The premise of the movie pertains to kids being ripped away from their families to fight to the death for food and fame (leave it to Hollywood to think the two are somehow inextricably linked)

These acts are televised in the districts of a place called Panem (can't but help think of the airline Pan-am when I hear that). At times it was like a horror film. Seeing teen after teen and kid after kid killed and in a very graphic manner is sick. It only serves to encourage violence in teens and desensitization of what is a very serious issue. This film has also been heavily criticized for its unoriginality and racist undertones and deservingly so.
